Lou Higuera, NP
Nurse Practitioner, IV Specialist | Biologix Center
Lou Higuera is a Nashville native and board-certified nurse practitioner with a passion for finding and treating the root causes of chronic illness. Her focus toward functional medicine began in 2009 while working in the emergency department, seeing patient after patient present with flares of chronic disease. Conventional medicine was not serving these patients effectively and, in most cases, only palliating symptoms. Lou’s interests are focused on autoimmune disorders, heavy metal toxicity, chelation therapy, Lyme disease, mold illness, and the role of emotional and physical trauma in chronic illness. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Florida State University and a master’s degree at Austin Peay State University. She has previously worked as an emergency department nurse in Tallahassee & Largo, FL, and Atlanta, GA. She has also worked in post-anesthesia care, a spine surgical facility, and has been consulting with clients in the functional medicine realm since 2019. Lou has a personal understanding of chronic pain and illness. She suffered through twenty years of pain and fatigue, during which she consulted many physicians and was told everything was ‘normal.’ Unable to find answers, she began her quest to regain health and assist others in regaining theirs. Discovering that she was heavy metal toxic with chronic Lyme disease, mold illness, and a disrupted gut, she vowed to help others find the root causes of their chronic illnesses and win back health. Lou enjoys growing her own food, Jeeps, and medical missions—some of the best times of her life were spent in Burundi, Africa, and Chinandega, Nicaragua.
